Reweaving the World Back Together
“My drawing represents the Earth that connects and unites us all. Humans are weaving each other. When one lets go, others fall. We are all connected to our planet and to each other, but unfortunately we are little aware of it.” - Anja Rozen, 13 from Slovenia
The power of the story of Children Inspiring Hope is the simplicity of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Connecting children globally creates pathways and removes obstacles, while extending capabilities for youth to go further than before. This is the value of going deep, and going together.
Anja’s words reflect the wisdom we find in the conversations and classrooms we bridge. The COVID pause gave humanity a unique glimpse of our interconnectedness, and time apart to reflect and reevaluate what matters most to us. Getting outdoors and in nature, was a huge part of the response here. The value of nature to enrich our lives, comfort, provide peace and restoration when there is time to commune. We remember the value of our ecosystem, and our part in it. We remember how important our relationships are, with all our relations.
As we begin to reweave our work cross-culturally, we engage in conversations about the stories we need to orient ourselves toward in our shifting landscape. Now, more than ever, creating a compass for what matters involves consideration for different metrics.
How important is ….
Hope
Support
Guidance
Connection
When we reorder what is most important, we allow goodness its own speech through a web of connections- uplifting and empowering- through the extension of kindness. One of our 5th grade participants reflected, “How much more good do you think we can do?!” She was elated with the tangible impact she and her classmates at Cliff Valley School created through donating the efforts of their school store to those in need in the Volta Region of Ghana. Her excitement reflects the moral beauty of kindness and courage, and assisting others in overcoming obstacles, and the power of saving lives.
The world still has so much more work to do to elevate our collective consciousness, and create a more sustainable world. We are renewed in our hope in the joy and compassion of children reconnecting, who guide us toward a world that isn’t just holding it together, but is finding its way toward grounding in flourishing.
